Connect Mittalmar with ChatGPT

ChatGPT can connect directly to a remote MCP server for development and testing. This path is available only when your account or workspace exposes Developer mode.

Check for Developer mode first

OpenAI describes direct MCP connections as a developer and testing feature, and says availability can depend on account and workspace policy. Access to Codex in the ChatGPT app does not confirm that this separate control is available. If your settings do not contain a Developer mode control, ChatGPT does not currently offer this connection path to your account.

Codex access and ChatGPT Developer mode are separate

Chat, Work, and Codex share the ChatGPT desktop app and can all use installed plugins. However, OpenAI documents raw MCP server registration behind a separate ChatGPT Developer mode switch and does not state that Codex access enables it. You can therefore use Codex while the direct MCP registration form remains unavailable in Chat or Work.

Connect the server

  1. Confirm Developer mode is available

    Check ChatGPT settings for a Developer mode control and enable it. OpenAI’s current guide documents this control, but it may be hidden by your account or workspace policy.

  2. Open ChatGPT Plugins

    Go to ChatGPT Plugins ↗ and select the plus button.

  3. Add Mittalmar

    In the MCP connection form, enter Mittalmar as the name and paste https://mcp.mittalmar.com/mcp as the connection URL. Create the connection and review the tools ChatGPT discovers.

  4. Sign in and approve access

    Follow the Mittalmar sign-in prompt, choose the account you want to use, and approve access.

  5. Start a new conversation

    Add Mittalmar to the conversation, then ask ChatGPT to use it.

If the plus button opens Plugin Creator

Plugin Creator is used to package and evaluate a complete plugin. It is not the raw MCP connection form. If you see Plugin Creator instead of fields for a name, description, and connection URL, your account is not exposing the direct connection flow documented by OpenAI. Use Codex or Claude, or ask your ChatGPT workspace administrator whether Developer mode is allowed.

Verify the connection

Start a new conversation with Mittalmar enabled and ask:

ChatGPT should describe the available Mittalmar capabilities. If it does not, confirm that the connection is enabled for the conversation, then start another new conversation.

This reads your saved channel context without creating or changing work.
